We are thankful for the advancement in modern medical technology in the last 100 years! We should fare much better than the people of the 1918 flu epidemic. We will get through this!Central Garage will continue as long as possible to maintain our normal business hours and routine to meet your Car Repair needs. THE RADIATOR CAP IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR CAR'S ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM!

THE RADIATOR CAP IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR CAR'S ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM!

Your Radiator cap should not look like this one!  The Radiator Cap is much more complex than the people in the Pataskala area realize. It does more than act as a lid to keep your Coolant – a mixture of 50% antifreeze and 50% water- inside the radiator. The Radiator Cap acts as a two way valve to maintain the correct pressure needed to operate your engine at a specified Temperature range. Running Too Hot can damage Engine seals and Gaskets, causing internal Engine Failure, leaving you stranded. Running too cold could decrease your gas mileage and will diminish the effectiveness of your Heater! Pataskala residents appreciate that during the routine digital courtesy inspection at Central Garage, we will visually inspect your Radiator Cap, to check the seal and look for coolant stains which would indicate loss of coolant at the cap. We can test the cap with a pressure tester. If it shows visible signs of leakage or does not hold the correct pressure, this inexpensive Radiator ... read more

Is it really necessary to flush my brake fluid?

Is it really necessary to flush my brake fluid?

Is it really necessary to replace my Brake Fluid? You bet it is! Contaminated Brake Fluid will decrease the efficiency of your Brakes, and will cause serious damage to expensive Brake parts, such as Calipers, Steel Brake Lines, and ABS Modules over time.  Our Pataskala customers often ask, "How does my Brake Fluid become contaminated?"  The Brake Hoses on your car are rubber, and rubber is also found in the Master Cylinder and Calipers. Small bits of rubber wear off over time and are washed into the Brake Fluid, causing the clear fluid to become discolored - a sure sign that the system needs flushed. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it attracts moisture from the air. Moisture causes the boiling point of the brake fluid to drop. The extreme heat in the Brake system with a high moisture contamination will result in a loss of Brake fluid. This moisture will also cause the metal portions of your Brake Calipers to rust from the inside out. Rusty Calip ... read more

Why can't I just install Brake Pads, do I really need Rotors too?

Why can't I just install Brake Pads, do I really need Rotors too?

The people of Pataskala who call for Brake Inspections sometimes ask "Why can't you just install new Brake Pads? Do I really need to replace the Brake Rotors too?  I understand no one wants to pay for something that is not necessary. So I'm glad you asked the question! It's not a great idea to just install new Brake Pads on your existing Brake Rotors for several reasons. The friction and heat that builds up each time you apply the brakes wears away at the surface of the Brake Rotors. They get thinner over time. If your existing Brake Rotors are not worn below safety specifications we can resurface them, making a smooth surface to match  your new Brake Pads. However, if the thickness of your Brake Rotors are worn below safety standards, or if there are large grooves, pits, or rusted areas, the Brake Rotors need to be replaced. In the Pataskala area of Central Ohio this is often the case. We often find the inner side of the Brake Rotor that you don ... read more

Are you too busy to notice a new sound coming from your car? I was!

Are you too busy to notice a new sound coming from your car? I was!

I've worked in an Auto Repair Shop for 28 years. I know how important it is to have any new Car Noise checked. But, I've been under a lot of stress. I've made at least eighty 2 hour round trips to Kentucky in the last two years helping to care for my elderly mother, all the while trying to keep up with work in the office, and chores at home. A recorded book really helped me cope with the travel time, but I guess I got so engrossed in the story, I didn't hear the noise at first. My daughter traveled with me recently and pointed it out, and I vowed to tell the guys at work as soon as I returned. Then, I forgot. Days later when my husband drove my car, he heard the noise and pointed out that I was 1000 miles past due for my Oil Change. So finally, my attention is focused on my car. The Alternator proved to be the source of the noise. I know the importance of regular maintenance, and tending to the f ... read more

Is an extended warranty on my car a good deal?

Is an extended warranty on my car a good deal?

Is an extended warranty on my car a good deal? At Central Garage in Pataskala we are asked this question quite often. Understanding warranties and how they work is essential in making a good choice. Think of the warranty in much the same way you consider health insurance coverage. Your health insurance policy will have a deductible, co-pays, and a perhaps a list of uncovered services. Some procedures may be capped at specific amounts. The better your coverage, the higher your premium and you can expect out of pocket expenses with every policy. Extended vehicle warranties work the same way. We have had mixed experiences with warranty companies – ranging from great coverage that pays well to very limited coverage that pays very little. Our best advice is to read the contract carefully and ask questions before you buy! To assume that your failed Engine will be replaced free of cost is a misconception. In mo ... read more

Describing Car Problems to a Mechanic

Describing Car Problems to a Mechanic

Do you ever get the feeling that something might be wrong, but you can't put your finger on what it is? Car Problems are not always as obvious as our Grandson's wardrobe problems, but you know your car. You drive it every day and know its little squeaks, moans and groans. If you tune your senses to observe your car, you could be your own front line defense against unexpected problems this winter. Be aware of changes in the way it drives, handles, and stops. Does it feel different, sound different, or have you noticed any different smells? Does it take a few seconds longer to start than it used to? Are there any new warning lights on the dash? Does your Cars Heat seem as warm as it should be? All these observations could be early signs of a problem that may be easy to correct if found quickly. The beauty in this type of service is that it can be done before it becomes an emergency – before a small problem ... read more

Is my car battery weak?

Is my car battery weak?

Batteries are a huge part of modern life. Think of how many battery chargers you have. Having a strong battery in your car is very important during the extreme conditions of Ohio's winter season, and 70 percent of batteries don't last for 4 years. There are some things that you can do to extend the life of your Battery. First, keep it clean. If you see it getting dirty or greasy, let us know at Central Garage Co Inc and we can clean it off. A dirty Battery runs hotter, and that shortens its life. If your Battery Terminals are Corroded, let us take a look at that, too. We can clean them, and if the corrosion has gotten into the Battery Cables, we can replace them. Also, running your Battery way down is bad for it. Things like running the Headlights or watching a DVD player with the car turned off can deeply deplete your battery. The typical Battery can only take about 10 of those deep cycle depletions before it gives up the ghost. Because we often take short trips around Rey ... read more

How Can I Improve My Gas Mileage?

How Can I Improve My Gas Mileage?

Nothing beats regular preventative maintenance to increase the lifespan and dependability of your vehicle. The good news is – this preventative maintenance will give you a boost in your fuel economy as well. Some gas saving tips won’t cost you anything, or very little; for example check and adjust tire pressures as needed. An underinflated tire increases rolling resistance adding up to 3% in gas consumption! Tire pressures change as the weather changes, so check monthly or even weekly if possible. Keeping your tires properly inflated will also allow them to wear evenly; you’ll be less likely to need new tires prematurely. You can also replace a dirty or clogged engine air filter to add to your fuel economy. Most filters range from $25.00 to $35.00 dollars and play an important part in protecting more expensive parts such as the mass air flow sensor. If your check engine light is on, have i ... read more
