Describing Car Problems to a Mechanic

Do you ever get the feeling that something might be wrong, but you can’t put your finger on what it is?
Car problems are not always as obvious as our Grandson’s wardrobe problems, but you know your car. You drive it every day and know its little squeaks, moans and groans. If you tune your senses to observe your car, you could be your own front line defense against unexpected problems this winter. Be aware of changes in the way it drives, handles, and stops. Does it feel different, sound different, or have you noticed any different smells? Does it take a few seconds longer to start than it used to? Are there any new warning lights on the dash? Does the heat seem as warm as it should be? All these observations could be early signs of a problem that may be easy to correct if found quickly. The beauty in this type of service is that it can be done before it becomes an emergency – before a small problem becomes a big, expensive problem.
So you’ve made the observation and have a concern – how do you communicate the problem to us? Don’t let that worry you – we have many ways to help you describe the concern. We know how to ask you questions that will make the symptoms easier for us to duplicate. For instance, does this happen when you first start the car or after you have driven for a while? Does it happen while you are driving, applying the brakes, or sitting at an idle? Do you see a leak of the ground; if so what color is it? Is this a sweet smell, or more like bad eggs? Do you hear a roaring sound, high pitched bird chirping sound, or is it more of a rubbing or grinding?
When in doubt, check it out! If there is a problem it won’t fix itself, and in fact it will only get worse. Central Garage Company is conveniently located close to your Reynoldsburg, Pataskala, Pickerington, and Blacklick home or office. We offer a free courtesy inspection with any service, so your concerns could be put to rest for just the cost of your regular oil and filter change. If there is a problem that needs attention – we’ll make you aware of it, and if everything is in good shape, we’ll tell you that too! Whenever possible, we would like to inform you that you will need brakes before spring, a battery before cold weather, or your spark plugs or timing belt replaced next year. Our customers appreciate the heads up, rather than the feeling of being unexpectedly over the barrel of car repairs.
